Alrighty, guys, we’re at the final book in the ‘Southern Reach’ Trilogy. It’s time for ‘Acceptance’ by author Jeff Vandermeer, and boy has it been a bumpy ride.
With ‘Annihilation’, we got to see Area X through the eyes of the Biologist. In ‘Authority’ we met Control and others outside of Area X in the Southern Reach, and were also introduced to Ghost Bird. At the end of the book, the world has gone to hell in a handbasket, and we’re left with a cliffhanger and so many questions.
So next up is ‘Acceptance’ which is a very good source of answers from many different points of view throughout the story’s history. You’ll still be asking questions by the end, but they’re questions better left to your imagination. All the important points and story arcs are covered. It’s truly a fitting ending to the trilogy as a whole, honestly.
As usual, you can find ‘Acceptance’ on Amazon, or check your local library or bookstore.
If you would like to discuss the trilogy, the characters, questions, theories, or otherwise just hang out, I’ll be holding a conversation through both Twitch and Skype on the books in early to mid April, so be on the lookout for that. If you have suggestions for our meeting, or want to talk about it beforehand, please send me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org or catch me on Twitter and Facebook. I’d love to hear what you guys have to say about this book, and the possible implications of it becoming a movie (only the first book, ‘Annihilation’ has been slated to become a feature film).
