Thanksgiving is a time when families get together, eat food, and give thanks for all that they have. But what if you don’t have family? What if you live all alone, and the one thing you really look forward to is an hour or two a day on the weekdays, or tearing junk mail into the smallest possible pieces? Such is the life of Mary.
This month, we’re not doing a whole web series. I was debating having a web show at all this month, and actually encouraging people to get off of their computer and spend time with friends and family. However, after watching this video, I think it’s important that people take ten minutes out of their day to watch this, and appreciate those in their lives just a little more.
Don’t feel bad for Mary. She’s loved, and in her own words, “God is good to me. Who at 98 years old is still walking on their feet? I am.” Just remember that there are people out there, just like Mary, who may not have the same optimistic attitude. Make sure you visit your loved ones, or at least give them a call or send a letter (yes, an honest to goodness piece of mail). Or, if you don’t have anyone like Mary in your life, volunteer at a senior center near you.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Now go enjoy everything you’re thankful for.
